No stabilized means you lose out on armor penetration, but with the increase for bloody or junkie can easily make that difference up. People keep saying all these advantages and disadvantages but they seem to forget some of the alternatives out there. There is loads of builds that do not use power armor. Why people keep dragging this into a power armor versus no power armor discussion is irrelevant. I see people not in power armor using heavy weapons all the time. Lots of perk points need to be sunk into defensive options for some builds Time sink in trying to get the right armor and affixesĬan be expensive to repair if you have certain armors Lots of defensive options that are really powerful (like Serendipity)ĭamage resistance (unless you have maxed out legendary armor) Legendary affixes available that make armors like Heavy Combat armor only slightly less protection than most PA Gets bonuses from just about every perk/affix/mutation that involves speed

Slow (can't get boosts from speed demon, etc)Įxpensive to repair (especially if you're using T-65 or Strangleheart)Įxtra damage from stealth (up to 3.2x at night with silenced weapons IIRC) Some pros and cons (assuming a non-melee build):ĭamage resistance (you'll need it since stealth perks do not work in PA)Įasy to put together and easy to find cores The only time you really want to try to do non-PA builds are if you're going to be taking advantage of the massive extra damage that stealth builds give over PA builds. If you find the right armor, you can use heavy weapons without PA. Since you would be omitting power armor perk cards, what benefits would you lose, and in turn what benefits would you gain by putting other perk cards in their place?

Or maybe I just need to find the right revolver.Originally posted by wattati:I'm making a new character because I want to try a heavy gunner play-style, and I only got to level 35 with my rifleman so I'm still fairly inexperienced with builds and the game.Ĭan you have a heavy gunner build without the use of power armor that does well in the end game? Now Todd please buff western revolvers so I can live my dream of being a post-apocalyptic cowboy. I know it isn't 100% ultra min max but this game is easy and I have yet to find a build with a better quality of life than pistols.

We'll see with the next patch if stabilized still works, but I honestly already dropped it and for situations where I need to conserve ammo the shredder still well. Lastly you can still use shredders very effectively with a 2 point investment into basher. Actually considering making myself a lower level launcher with 90% weight reduction for pure tagging purposes. Oh by the way I also have grenadier and explosive expert so my 2 shot grenade launcher can still clear a hallway in rad rumble in a single shot. Plasma pistol flamers are top tier end-game boss melting weapons. That is right the automatic flamethrower is actually a semi-auto pistol is Todd's eyes(please don't change this Todd just give us more auto pistols to play with). I am able to headshot enemies from 50 yards away without 50 VHC, which leaves room for crit legendary effects, or if I do go for 50 VHC I'll be able to snipe anti-social scorchbeasts putzing around in the stratosphere.Īlso did I mention the plasma pistol flamer barrel scales with gunslinger perks, and DOES NOT SCALE WITH GUERILLA. Also have woodchucker and green thumb which has helped with camp building and camp budget since I need less crops to manage my buffs.ĭamage wise the plasma pistol is very strong and has excellent range and ammo economy without any crazy god rolls(but still gets even better with god rolls). I have the perks to help find magazines and bobbleheads and I swear I am finding a new one every 5 to 10 minutes. I have travelling pharmacy, ordinance express, and batteries included which means I can stack ammo, grenades, explosives, and drugs to my heart's content and never worry about weight. Not having my damage locking up strength and perception traits has been glorious. I have been playing a gunslinger(non-automatic) pistol build lately and honestly I can't go back to rifle or heavy.
